    water source
  • Water supply is the process of self-provision or provision by third parties in the water industry, commonly a public utility, of water resources of various qualities to different users. Irrigation is covered separately.

  • Water is being used as the heat source or heat sink for a heat pump. Sources of underground water are wells and sources of surface water are lakes, large ponds, and rivers.

  • The basic origin of a water , either a surface source (such as lake, river or reservoir) or a subsurface source ( such as well). After treatment and pumping via pipelines, the treated and pumped water becomes a water supply.

    heat pump
  • A device that transfers heat from a colder area to a hotter area by using mechanical energy, as in a refrigerator

  • A device which uses compression and decompression of gas to heat and/or cool a house.

  • A heat pump is a machine or device that moves heat from one location (the 'source') at a lower temperature to another location (the 'sink' or 'heat sink') at a higher temperature using mechanical work or a high-temperature heat source.

  • apparatus that extracts heat from a liquid that is at a higher temperature than its surroundings; can be used to transfer heat from a reservoir outside in order to heat a building

    work
  • Activity involving mental or physical effort done in order to achieve a purpose or result

  • A place or premises for industrial activity, typically manufacturing

  • exert oneself by doing mental or physical work for a purpose or out of necessity; "I will work hard to improve my grades"; "she worked hard for better living conditions for the poor"

  • a product produced or accomplished through the effort or activity or agency of a person or thing; "it is not regarded as one of his more memorable works"; "the symphony was hailed as an ingenious work"; "he was indebted to the pioneering work of John Dewey"; "the work of an active imagination";

  • Such activity as a means of earning income; employment

  • activity directed toward making or doing something; "she checked several points needing further work"

Water crisis is a term that has been used by some to refer to the world’s water resources relative to human demand. The term has been applied to the worldwide water situation by the United Nations and other world organizations. Others, for example the Food and Agriculture Organization, claim there is no water crisis. The major aspects of the water crisis are allegedly overall scarcity of usable water and water pollution.

2 billion people have gained access to a safe water source since 1990. The proportion of people in developing countries with access to safe water is calculated to have improved from 30 percent in 1970 to 71 percent in 1990, 79 percent in 2000 and 84 percent in 2004, parallel with rising population. This trend is projected to continue.

The Earth has a finite supply of fresh water, stored in aquifers, surface waters and the atmosphere. Sometimes oceans are mistaken for available water, but the amount of energy needed to convert saline water to potable water is prohibitive today, explaining why only a very small fraction of the world's water supply derives from desalination.

There are several principal manifestations of the water crisis.

* Inadequate access to safe drinking water for about 884 million people
* Inadequate access to water for sanitation and waste disposal for 2.5 billion people
* Groundwater overdrafting (excessive use) leading to diminished agricultural yields
* Overuse and pollution of water resources harming biodiversity
* Regional conflicts over scarce water resources sometimes resulting in warfare

The Lower Peirce Reservoir (Chinese: ????????) is one of the oldest reservoirs in Singapore. It is located near the MacRitchie Reservoir and the Upper Peirce Reservoir. It was originally created as the Peirce Reservoir but was designated as lower upon the creation of the Upper Peirce Reservoir. It is 6 hectares in size and contains many trees that are over 100 years old. There is a Lower Peirce Trail, which is a 900-metre boardwalk that takes visitors through a mature secondary forest. The reservoir is the source of the Kallang River, the longest river in Singapore.
